President Obama and other senior Western officials said Thursday that a bomb may have caused a Russian passenger jet to crash in Egypt last weekend, redoubling speculation about a terrorist attack despite heated protests from the governments of both Russia and Egypt.

In a radio interview with Seattle-based KIRO Radio, Obama said, “I think there is a possibility that there was a bomb on board and we’re taking that very seriously.”

“We’re going to spend a lot of time just making sure our own investigators and own intelligence community find out what’s going on before we make any definitive pronouncements. But it’s certainly possible that there was a bomb on board,” he said.

U.S. intelligence officials and key legislators echoed the president’s remarks but cautioned that while a bomb may have brought down the Russian plane, that cause has not been confirmed.

Though no group has claimed responsibility for the deadly weekend bombings in Ankara, the focus of the investigation is the Islamic extremist group ISIS, Turkey’s Prime Minister said Monday.

Two suicide bombers are believed to have carried out Saturday’s attack near Ankara’s main train station, killing at least 97 people and wounding nearly 250 others, Turkey has said.

Authorities have begun to collect DNA samples from relatives of those suspected of having joined ISIS to help identify possible suspects in the bombings, Turkey’s semiofficial Anadolu news agency reported.

Not specifically identifying any group behind the act, Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu told Turkish television station NTV on Monday, “We investigate Daesh (ISIS) as our No. 1 priority. There (has) been good progress toward identifying a name. That name points to an organization.”

Davutoglu said his country had come face to face with suicide bombers a long time ago. “This attack will not turn Turkey into a Syria,” he said.

The weekend blasts targeted crowds at a lunchtime peace rally calling for an end to the renewed conflict between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, and the Turkish government.

Also Russian warplanes have destroyed a surface-to-air missile launcher that the Islamic State terrorist group previously captured from the Syrian Army, the Russian Defense Ministry reports. The bombing campaign in Syria is forcing the jihadists to flee.
The 9K33 Osa short-range air defense launcher was destroyed by a Sukhoi Su-34 bomber in Eastern Douma near Damascus, ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov told the media in his Thursday daily briefing.

The Su-34 dropped a precision anti-fortification bomb KAB-500 at a concrete shelter, where the launcher was hidden, destroying both the weapon and the building, he added.

Osa, which is called Gecko by NATO, is a highly-mobile launcher equipped with six short-range surface-to-air missiles meant to provide tactical cover from enemy aircraft to ground troops.

The launcher was destroyed during one of 33 combat missions that Russia conducted in Syria over the day. A total of 32 targets in the provinces Idlib, Hama, Damascus, Aleppo and Deir ez-Zor were hit, Konashenkov said.

The general added that terrorist forces appear to be abandoning their positions and are pulling back.

In this clip of the I’m Black, He’s Mexican Podcast Arizona Verse & Soul Papo wax philosophically about Putin being angry about recent Nuclear Weapons the United States has shipped out.

The Kremlin says Russia will take countermeasures if the U.S. places new nuclear weapons at a base in Germany.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov’s comments, reported Wednesday by Russian news agencies, came in response to a report by Germany’s ZDF television. The report said that preparation is underway by the U.S. to station B61-12 nuclear bombs, which have been recently upgraded, at Buechel Air Base in Germany.

ZDF said its information was based on examination of U.S. federal budget reports. The claim couldn’t immediately be confirmed.

A Pentagon spokesman, Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, said the U.S. does not discuss the locations, numbers or details of any nuclear weapons, including those outside the country.

Peskov said “unfortunately, if this step is implemented … it may disrupt the strategic balance in Europe and therefore will clearly make Russia take corresponding countermeasures to re-establish the balance.”

He didn’t specify what those measures might be.
